Welcome back. I merged several three blogs that I had together into one and I'm deleting them. I decided that I like the blog title, "A Working Photographer" and that I'd rather have it different from the business name. Digital Room Studios is a good business name, but it just doesn't fit the blog.
I'm also going to start attempting to design a website. I really have a hard time with designing things like websites. When I take a photo, I generally see what I want the end result to look like in my mind before I even take the picture and I can get a good approximate match in the camera, but when it comes to designing a website, I can stare blankly at the screen for hours thinking of all the fun things I'd rather be doing.
Next up, I created a Flickr group. It's the, A Working Photographer Flickr Group. It's so if one day I get commenters and people reading my blog they can have a place to share photos and have discussions.
And last but not least, I got a bit of advice from Jack Hartzman at Washington Talent. I attended a short workshop of his last week and although I wasn't exactly the target audience, I enjoyed it and took away some good information. Jack's workshop was mainly geared towards wedding and event photographers and photographers that shoot traditional portraiture. Naw dog, that ain't me. Anyways, the advice? Well I called him the Monday after the workshop and asked what he thought I should do to break into advertising and commercial photography business in the capitol region. He told me to find a business and to offer the first photo session for free. It made sense; no business owner that wants professional photography will pass up a free shoot. It costs them little to nothing in resources and time and I'm the one that'll have to do the planning. Either one of two things will happen. They'll love it and they'll call me back for future work or they won't and I'll have a new portfolio item. Oh, and I'm not shooting to provide them with marketing material and everything else. Something like a poster that they can hang in their business is good enough for me.
So I have my eyes set on one local business. It's not going to be the only one, this one just happens to coincide with some photos I've already taken and an opportunity to work with a talented kid on a bicycle. We'll see what happens from here.
